GDETO showcased the sound, color and taste of Hong Kong's cultural and creative industries in Hong Kong Pavilion

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) of the Government of HKSAR set up a Hong Kong Pavilion at the 12th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industry Fair (ICIF) during the period of 12 - 16 May to introduce, through multifarious forms and content, Hong Kong’s cultural and creative industries to people on the Mainland.

With a view to promoting exchanges and cooperation on cultural and creative industries between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, the GDETO launched a brand new Hong Kong Pavilion that encompasses the sound, color and taste of Hong Kong cultural and creative industries.  Items on showcase include the home-grown comics’ characters, the charming Hong Kong style qipao that accentuates feminine beauty, our intangible cultural heritage - Hong Kong style milk tea, the various awards-winning works of Hong Kong young designers, etc.  The Hong Kong Police Band, which has been set up for over six decades and renowned for its marvelous music with fusion of Eastern and Western culture, was also invited to perform live.

Hong Kong Pavilion per se is a work of art, with the richness of culture and modernity of Hong Kong skilfully intertwined to showcase the uniqueness and charm of Hong Kong as Asia's world city.  Mr. Edmond Wong, a young Hong Kong architect and product designer, was responsible for the overall design of Hong Kong Pavilion.

The present exhibition was organised by GDETO, with the Association of Coffee and Tea of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Design Centre as the co-organisers, and with strong support from Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, and the Office of Shenzhen “City of Design”, and Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations.  The five-day exhibition attracted about 59,000 visitors.  GDETO received “Outstanding Organisation Award” and “Outstanding Exhibit Award” for Hong Kong Pavilion in ICIF for two consecutive years.
