GDETO organises the “Seminar on services trade in Guangdong and Hong Kong” cum launching ceremony of the “2016 Directory of Hong Kong Service Enterprises in Guangdong”

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (GDETO) today (August 11) joined hands with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China – Guangdong (HKCCC-GD) to organise the “Seminar on services trade in Guangdong and Hong Kong” cum launching ceremony of the "2016 Directory of Hong Kong Service Enterprises in Guangdong ".  About 250 trade representatives from Hong Kong (HK) and Guangdong (GD) attended the Seminar.

The "2016 Directory of Hong Kong Service Enterprises in Guangdong" (the Directory) was jointly published by the GDETO, HKTDC and HKCCC-GD.  The Directory includes information of nearly 900 HK service enterprises in the nine cities of the Pearl River Delta Region, and in the sectors of financial services, professional services, real estate services, enterprises services, living services, manufacturing services, general services, government and public services.  The online version of the Directory is available at the website (http://www.hkservicedirectoryingd.gov.hk/).

Mr Albert Tang, Director of GDETO, said at the launching ceremony that, “the Directory aims to enhance co-operation between the services industries of HK and GD, and to facilitate the enterprises and the general public in the Mainland to contact the Hong Kong service enterprises in GD, with a view to promoting the development of services industry in GD.”

He further said that, “During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, GD has been strongly advocating  the development of services industry, which has been in line with the national policy of accelerating the change in the mode of economic development.  As a result, the contribution of services industry has reached more than half (50.8%) of the GDP in GD in 2015.  Similar to the successful experiences of GD in developing into the “World Factory” with the efforts and investment of HK businessmen since the implementation of “Reform and Opening” policy, GD can adopt the same strategy in promoting the development of services industry through encouraging the cooperation of services sectors in both GD and HK.”

Mr Tang added that, “Since the signing of Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) in 2003, GD has been playing the leading role of early and pilot implementation in the cooperation with HK in the services industry.  In March 2015, GD has become the first province in China to basically achieve the liberalization of trade in services, which  shows that the GD-HK cooperation strategy has been very effective.”

Mr Tang said at the media interview before the event that, “Many service enterprises have performed well in GD recently.  For example, the financial services  industry, which is one of the strengths in HK.  Major banks of HK have already set up branches in many of the key cities in GD.”

“As at end of May 2016, there were a total of 204 GD enterprises listed in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, with an IPO value of more than HK$ 200 billion, with a total capital raising amount of more than HK$ 600 billion, and  the total market value of over HK$ 3,000 billion.”

“Another strength of HK is the professional service.  Since the liberalization of trade in services between GD and HK has been basically achieved last year, t a total of 9 law firms operating in the form of partnership association have been set up in Guangdong.  The liberation of trade in services between GD and HK has encouraged the cooperation of services trade between GD and HK.  It also has been effective in promoting the development of services industry in GD.”, he concluded. The “Seminar on service trade in Guangdong and Hong Kong” was taken place after the launching ceremony of the Directory.  Mr Li Yang-chun, Deputy Director-General of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Guangdong Provincial People's Government delivered a briefing on the latest development of the liberation of trade in services between GD and HK. Ms Angela Liu, Representative of South China Mainland Affairs, Market Development of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd., and Mr Vincent Tse, Senior Consultant, Management Consulting Division of Hong Kong Productivity Council, also gave presentations on “The latest development of HK stock market” and “Experience Management for Services Enterprises” respectively.
