Fujian Liaison Unit (FJLU) of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSARG) organized the “Fuzhou-Hong Kong Exchange” on 6 December 2016 in Fuzhou. Fuzhou Municipal Government Hong Kong Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Fuzhou Office were the co-organizers. The event attracted around 150 representatives of HK enterprises, Fuzhou-based HK people, HK students studying in Fuzhou, as well as officials from Fujian Provincial and Fuzhou Municipal Government to attend.
Mr Albert Tang, Director of GDETO and Mr Hang Dong, Vice Mayor of Fuzhou Municipal People's Government delivered opening remarks. Mr Albert Tang, Director of GDETO, said that, “the purpose of Fuzhou-Hong Kong Exchange was to provide a platform for Fuzhou-based Hong Kong people and Hong Kong enterprises to enhance communications and exchanges, and offering them an opportunity to interact with Fuzhou Municipal officials overseeing economic and trade, and learn about the business opportunities in Fuzhou, including the latest development in respect of the 13th Five-year Plan, Belt and Road Initiative, Fuzhou New District and Fuzhou FTZ, etc.” Mr. Tang also briefly introduced the activities to be organized by FJLU in 2017 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the HKSAR, and encouraged the business sector to provide internship and employment opportunities to HK students studying in Fujian universities.
To encourage enthusiastic exchange among the participants, FJLU invited the Hong Kong Wine Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce to arranged wine tasting before the Exchange to promote Hong Kong’s wine industry and Hong Kong’s advantage as duty-free wine port. The participants exchanged lively, and they welcomed the opportunity to get together and interacted directly with Fuzhou Municipal officials.
In addition, to let Hong Kong students to get in touch with Hong Kong enterprises, FJLU invited over 20 Hong Kong students studying in Fuzhou to participate in the Exchange, and arranged two final year students to share their career aspirations upon graduation. After the Exchange, many participants expressed interests to offer internship and employment opportunities to the Hong Kong students. The students also welcomed the opportunity to interact with the business sector, and found the experience from the interaction helpful to their future.
